Description

I just got back from an astrophotography road trip where I was able to image from several Bortle 2 sites in Utah. The experience was amazing and interesting at the same time. I was not able to get a dog sitter during the new moon so I was amazed at just how bright the moon is at a dark sky location. I ended up adjusting my targets to avoid trees, mountains and shoot opposite of where the moon was.

My first evening focused on the Bubble Nebula. Even with the bright moonlight, processing was very different with both light pollution removal in APP and DBE in Pixinsight resulting in little change. Dark skies really do make a difference! I definitely look forward to doing another trip like this again. As luck would have it, my new Skywatcher reducer flattener arrived on the day I got back. I really hope the flattener designed specifically for this scope tames the corner stars - this image was cropped to eliminate the worst offenders.
